Why donate to the Global Fund

back to the donate page

The Global Fund represents a first-time opportunity to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria on an unprecedented scale. It is an enormous undertaking, but our goals are within reach.

If you would like to assist our efforts to combat these life-threatening diseases, you may make a donation of any amount to the Global Fund.

Through our grant agreement system which relies on in-country partnership and leadership, you can be assured that your contribution will go directly to people in regions that are most affected by these diseases.

In sub-Saharan Africa for example, approximately 3,000 people die from malaria each day, most of them children. However, only two percent of children in this region sleep under an insecticide-treated bed net. As the average cost of a treated mosquito net is only US$ 4, a small donation could go a long way to saving these lives.

In the realm of HIV/AIDS, the world's youth are becoming the most vulnerable to the epidemic. One third of the estimated 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS is 15 to 24 years old. Donations will go towards antiretroviral treatment programs, the training of teachers in AIDS prevention education, awareness-raising activities and training of medical personnel in HIV counseling and testing, which is non-existent in some regions.

More than 8 million people become sick with tuberculosis, a treatable disease, according to The World Health Organization (WHO). The number one recommended strategy for detection and cure of TB is called DOTS. Individual contributions can greatly assist in the financing of drugs for DOTS, which can cost only US$ 10 per person for the full course of treatment. DOTS has proven to be successful with a success rate of up to 80% in the poorest countries
