Global Fund welcomes message of support from French President François Hollande

WASHINGTON – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria welcomes a message of support delivered by President François Hollande of France at the International AIDS Conference in Washington D.C.

In a recorded video presentation on Monday, Mr. Hollande reaffirmed France's commitment to the Global Fund in the fight against AIDS and stressed his intention to create innovative financing instruments as a means of raising additional resources.

He confirmed that France will implement a tax on financial transactions, starting 1 August. He also referred to his proposal at the last G20 and Rio summits for such a tax to be adopted at a European and international level in order to raise additional funding for the fight against AIDS.
